The black numbers

This is a game based on my frustration with today's food production and the lack of good information. We currently have a production system that leaks in all joints; we lose valuable food throughout the process. In addition, much of the food production is driven by murky motivation and basis, which results in certain actors doing everything they can to earn money — despite it being at the expense of quality, the environment, employees and consumers.

The rich part of the world eats more and more, while the rest of the world would have gone to war for fresh water and food. Obesity is increasing; so does hunger. There is a huge amount of information out there, but the most important question also proves to be the most difficult to get a proper answer to; where has all the food we produce gone?

This game is designed to raise awareness of the issues around todays food production. It divides marbles into three categories; use, throw and black numbers. 1/3 of the marbles will end in “throw” and 2/3 in “use”, while an uncertain number of marbles disappears at the back of the game and ends up in "black numbers". I want to make people aware of the big black hole in food production information and encourage them to question it.
